The Dales by bus and train

The beautiful countryside of the Dales is easily accessible from West Yorkshire by bus and train

Timetable

How to get there

There are many ways to access the beautiful scenery of the Yorkshire Dales by public transport from West Yorkshire.

Good bus and train services run to several towns on the edge of the Dales from where daily buses run to the main towns, villages and tourist attractions of the Yorkshire Dales.

These are supplemented by buses direct from West Yorkshire cities into the heart of the Dales on Sundays and Bank Holidays, with extra services operating during the summer months.

Tickets and passes

Dales Rover tickets offer unlimited travel on most DalesBus services on Sundays and Bank Holidays, and also on some connecting buses. They can be bought from the driver.

MCards loaded with weekly or longer period tickets are valid on Sundays and Bank Holidays on all DalesBus services from West Yorkshire - that is services 821, 825, 874, 875 and 884. They are also valid on Summer Saturday service 74 to/from Grassington.

English National Concessionary Senior and Disabled passes can be used on all DalesBus services for free travel on off-peak services on Mondays to Fridays and on all services on Saturdays and on most services on Sundays and Bank Holidays. However, North Yorkshire, City of York and Lancashire councils have classified some DalesBus services to be 'tourist routes' and excluded these routes from the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme. Concessionary passess are therefore not valid for free travel for any journey commencing in Lancashire, North Yorkshire or the City of York on DalesBus services 822, 825, 830, 831 or 881.
