Leeds City Centre, The Headrow

Services affected: 1, 1B, 6, 33, 34, 35, 42, 49, 50, 50A, 51, 52, 60, 163, 166, 167, 168, 508, X26, X27, X84, X85, X98 and X99

Major construction works on The Headrow, as part of the Connecting Leeds improvement works, are underway, continuing until autumn 2020.

Bus diversions and temporary stops until Autumn 2020 - a summary

Since September 2019, The Headrow (eastbound) has been closed to all traffic from its junction with Cookridge Street to Vicar Lane. 

Buses operating west to east are diverting from The Headrow via Calverley Street, Great George Street, Merrion Street, New Briggate and Vicar Lane before resuming normal route at the junction with Eastgate/Vicar Lane.

Some buses operating west to east are avoiding The Headrow by operating from Wellington Street via King Street, Infirmary Street, City Square, Boar Lane, Duncan Street, Call Lane, New York Street, York Street to Leeds City Bus Station.

Westbound services on The Headrow, from Eastgate towards Leeds Town Hall, are operating normal route throughout the road works period.

 

Latest bus stop change information 

** From mid February, bus stops on The Headrow by the top of Briggate will be moved for 16 weeks **

From Tuesday 11 February bus stop H10 (45029158 near The Money Shop) will be moved to the middle of the road for around 16 weeks.
Bus stops H7 (45010657 near Horse & Trumpet Pub) and H8 (45010658 near Greggs) have been moved to the middle of the road.

This diversion allows the widening of the footpath to begin and the chance to install trees and planter boxes.

Buses affected are:

  • 1, 1B, 6, X84 and X85 for stop H10

  • 49, 50 and 50A at stop H7

  • 72, 163, 166, 167, 168, X26, X27 and X60 for stop H8.

Stops H7 and H8 have been combined to create a single stop 

 

** Bus stop H9 on The Headrow has been moved for approximately 16 weeks **

  • 33 34 35 60 and 508 are stopping at a stop near to Currys PC World

** Since Wednesday 11 December, buses and stops between Vicar Lane and New Briggate moved for 16 weeks **

This affects the three bus stops H5 and H6 on The Headrow

On Wednesday 11 December, bus stops H5 and H6 - services 42, 51, 52, X98 and X99 moved to one temporary stop at the centre of The Headrow.

A safe pedestrian diversion route back to the south side footpath will be in place. Barriers will be in place to protect pedestrians from traffic.
