Updated: 09 December 2019

Work on major improvements to Leeds city centre's Infirmary Street and Park Row is due to start in early spring 2020.

Measures will include:

  • new bus stops in lay-bys on both sides of Infirmary Street and removal of the central bus stop island;
  • making Infirmary Street a two-way route,which will support future proposals to remove through-traffic from City Square and extend public space
  • a pedestrian crossing across the middle of Infirmary Street – where people want to cross
  • making Park Row one-way, southbound, with bus lay-bys to improve bus journey times;
  • introducing new stretches of bus lane to reduce delays on Park Row, Infirmary Street and City Square;
  • providing wider pavements on Park Row and Infirmary Street;
  • relocating southbound bus stops on Park Row together at the southern end of the street;
  • a two-way protected cycle path between Bedford Street and the Headrow ;
  • a protected southbound cycle track between City Square and Russell Street.

Carrying out this work to achieve these improvements will mean temporary and permanent changes to the location of bus stops and the services that call at them.

We will add details of these changes to this page as details become available.
