Information Point  at Leeds Bus StationBus users looking to plan a journey, find out when their next bus is departing or even when their bus service is changing can now access all the information they need on new interactive Information Points at staffed bus stations across West Yorkshire.

Installed by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, the touch screen Information Points will make it easier for customers to access the latest travel information for getting to and from work, home or leisure opportunities across the county.

Timetable changes

In addition to departure times and the journey planner, customers can also access information on latest timetable changes or find the phone number of the lost property department of the local bus operator.

The Information Points are now ready to use at Bradford, Castleford, Dewsbury, Halifax, Huddersfield, Keighley, Leeds and Pontefract bus stations. Just look out for the tall, Metro branded, navy blue electronic touchscreen machines with an information logo on the top.

Cllr Keith Wakefield, Chair of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Transport Committee, said:  “We know from the feedback we receive that being able to access up-to-date, accurate travel information is key to encouraging more people to use local bus services.

“The new Information Points installed by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority will provide an essential service for customers, giving them real time updates through state-of-the-art technology that will ultimately make getting around the county easier than ever.

“By encouraging more people to use bus services, the Combined Authority is helping to reduce the numbers of cars on the road as well as the levels of air pollution across West Yorkshire.”

The Information Points can be used at any time the bus stations are open.

Shelters and stops

The new installations follow news that new and improved information displays are also being rolled out to West Yorkshire’s 14,000 bus shelters and stops from this month as a result of Bus 18 - a joint initiative to improve customer satisfaction and passenger experiences for West Yorkshire bus users.

The new design includes a clearer presentation of bus times, a map showing stops along the route and journey times, and operator branding that will make it easier for customers to identify the service for which they are waiting.

Bus 18 brings together the county’s major bus companies, Arriva, First and Transdev; the Association of Bus Operators in West Yorkshire (ABOWY); and the Combined Authority.

One million scans

In addition, the Combined Authority has now had more than one million scans of its QR (Quick Response) Codes and NFC (Near Field Communication) Tags at West Yorkshire bus stops. When scanned by a smart phone they take customers to a web page showing when their next bus is due at that particular stop.
