Discovering your neighbouring National Park by bus and train

Dd you know local bus and train services can help you explore the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales?

Top Dales destinations including Bolton Abbey, Buckden, Burnsall, Hebden, Grassington, Kettlewell and Kilnsey can all be reached directly by bus from West Yorkshire locations such as Adel, Ben Rhydding, Burley, Headingley, Ilkley, Leeds, Otley, Rothwell and Wakefield.

Busy network

Also there are bus and train services to towns such as Skipton on the edge of the Dales, from where a busy bus network connects the Dales National Park’s main towns, villages and tourist attractions.

Among these is the Northern Dalesman Bus service which featured in BBC4's slow TV hit ‘All Aboard! The Country Bus’.


On Sundays and Bank Holidays, people with a West Yorkshire MCard loaded with weekly, monthly or annual tickets can use them on services in the Dales. These include DalesBus services 821, 825, 874, 875 and 884 and the Summer service 74 between Ilkley and Grassington, on Saturdays until  19 October.

People with Senior or Disabled passes from the English National Concessionary Scheme can use them for free, off-peak Monday to Friday travel on most DalesBus services. They can also use them at any time on most services on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Dales Rover

Dales Rover Tickets providing unlimited travel on Sundays and Bank Holidays cost just £10. They are valid on a wide range of services including all DalesBus services, First Leeds services 33, 34 & X84, Flying Tiger service 747 and all buses run by the Keighley and the Harrogate Bus Company.

Dales Freedom Rover Family tickets for any group of up to two adults and up to three under-19s travelling together, cost just £18. Dales Privilege Rover for students ENCTS elderly or disabled pass holders and Railcard holders cost £8.
