Active Economy Bid

Combined Authority has submitted a bid to the Department for Transport (DfT) for to deliver a programme of walking and cycling schemes for journeys to and from work and training.Access Fund Bid

Over three years, the £7.5m programme would build on current Combined Authority initiatives that have been successful in getting more people walking and cycling. It would support businesses, employees and those seeking work and training opportunities.

A successful bid would allow West Yorkshire Combined Authority and its partners to expand the current offers available through the CityConnect Bike Friendly Business scheme and the West Yorkshire Travel Plan Network to businesses in four major West Yorkshire employment areas.

These initiatives include:

  • Providing advice to businesses on enabling their employees to walk, run and cycle to work
  • Helping employees get training and support to try out cycling to work
  • Setting up challenges and competitions to encourage those that can to walk to do so
  • Supporting jobseekers, apprentices and people wanting to reach training and higher and further education opportunities to do so on foot or by bike
