A65 Quality Bus scheme

A scheme to provide new bus priority lanes along the A65 in Leeds, in partnership with Leeds City Council and First.

September 2014 : Scheme completed.

 
 
What the scheme delivered 
·         50,000 meters of new road surface
·         5km of new footpath
·         10 new or improved pedestrian crossings
·         Planting of 2,800 trees and 25,000 shrubs
·         11 new passenger shelters and Real Time Information units.
How was the scheme was delivered? 
·         Through partnership working, Metro, LCC and Bus operators, First, Transdev and Yorkshire Tiger
·         Robust Information and Promotion campaign including a dedicated website “The Easyway”
·         Close liaison with businesses and residents along the line of route (regular update meetings held)
 Outcome
·         Thirteen per cent increase in patronage along the corridor
·         £3 million invested by First Group in vehicles operating along the corridor
·         Brand new vehicles now operated on Yorkshire Tiger Leeds – Horsforth – Airport service
·         Additional “faster” limited stop service introduced on service X33 Leeds – Horsforth – Guiseley
·         Enhanced timetable – Leeds – Horsforth – Airport (now every 20 minutes most of the day)
·         Improved reliability and punctuality on services operating along the corridor. Scheduling can be done with greater confidence   due to better journey time predictability.
·         Increased customer satisfaction
·         Safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists
The Future
Funding secured to improve the Horsforth roundabout (A65/Ring Road) with opportunities to introduce further bus priority measures.
